When she finally made it back to the saloon, Samantha found Jacob sitting at the bar. The floor was swept and the tables were neatly arranged. There was still some time before opening so Samantha took the opportunity to discuss her plans with Jacob.

Jacob laughed. “I gave Dog the day off and said I would be in charge behind the bar until further notice. I hope you don’t mind my forwardness.”

“I appreciate you handling Dog. I am not sure what is going to happen in the long term,” Samantha sighed.

“No decisions have to be made today but know that I am here to help as long as you need me,” Jacob smiled.

“Thank you. I don’t know what I would do without your help. I met several women from town this morning and I am starting to think I’m not alone. I do have one question?”

“Sure. Ask me anything,” Jacob sat upright, ready to answer.

“Why does everyone around here have an animal nickname?” Samantha asked.

“I have no idea, Samantha.” Jacob snickered.
